Walsh Flooring Services executed subfloor repair, self-levelling preparation, and Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) plank installation for a kitchen refurbishment project in Cheddar, Somerset. The works involved treating damaged concrete substrates with ARDEX repair mortars and levelling compounds before laying straight-plank, warm wood-effect LVT.
Subfloor Preparation & ARDEX Products
- Substrate Clearing & Surface Prep: Existing floor coverings were removed down to the raw concrete substrate, exposing minor surface cracking, divots, and friable material.
- Localized Repairs with ARDEX A45: ARDEX A45 rapid-setting repair mortar was feather-edged across deep depressions and damaged subfloor sections to restore structural integrity.
- Full-Coverage Levelling with ARDEX NA: ARDEX NA self-smoothing compound was applied across the entire kitchen footprint, curing into a glass-smooth, level base suited for glue-down LVT.
Wood-Effect LVT Plank Installation
- Plank Alignment: Rich oak-toned LVT planks were installed in a traditional staggered running bond pattern parallel to the main natural light source.
- Precision Edge Trimming: Material was hand-scribed around doorways, stair risers, base units, and exposed utility pipework for tight, seamless perimeter joints.
- Refurbishment Integration: Flooring was fitted wall-to-wall during the active room renovation phase, establishing a level foundation for subsequent kitchen cabinet installations.
Key Project Outcomes
- Subfloor Rehabilitation: ARDEX A45 repair mortar and ARDEX NA smoothing compound resolved structural substrate defects to secure long-term adhesion.
- Natural Aesthetic: Warm wood-tone LVT planks delivered an inviting finish combined with water resistance and simple daily maintenance.
- Precision Workmanship: Clean borders and door threshold cuts created a smooth, seamless transition into adjoining living spaces.
