F. Ball (Stopgap MVS Damp-Proof Membrane, Stopgap 1200 Pro Smoothing Compound), Karndean (Knight Tile Collection)

This project covered comprehensive subfloor preparation and high-end Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) fitting for a residential new-build property in Somerset. Works required applying a specialist liquid damp-proof membrane and heavy-duty smoothing compound across the entire ground floor layout, including living spaces, hallway, kitchen, and cloakroom, before laying a continuous chevron-patterned LVT floor.

Subfloor Preparation & F. Ball Products

Ensuring long-term stability on fresh concrete subfloors in new-build properties required a full moisture suppression system and levelling layer:

  • Moisture Suppression with F. Ball Stopgap MVS: Applied across the ground floor concrete to suppress residual construction moisture and prevent subfloor dampness from degrading adhesive bonds.
  • Surface Levelling with F. Ball Stopgap 1200 Pro: Poured over the primed substrate to smooth out surface imperfections, creating a glass-like finish throughout all interconnected rooms and doorways.
  • Precision Curing: Allowed to cure to a flat, mirror-smooth base around fitted kitchen cabinetry, bathroom sanitaryware, and door threshholds.

Karndean Knight Tile Chevron LVT Installation

  • Chevron Pattern Alignment: Installed Karndean Knight Tile LVT in a continuous chevron pattern across multiple rooms to create visual depth and seamless flow between living areas and hallways.
  • Perimeter Trimming: Scribed along skirting boards, door frames, kitchen units, and bathroom fixtures for a clean finish without thresholds between adjoining rooms.
  • Roll-Pressure Bonding: Weighted heavy rollers were passed over the freshly set LVT to lock the adhesive bonds securely into place.

Key Project Outcomes

  • Structural Moisture Protection: F. Ball Stopgap MVS and 1200 Pro ensured full moisture isolation and a level subfloor base across the new-build layout.
  • Seamless Flow: Running the chevron pattern continuously through doorways enlarged the visual feel of the interior layout.
  • High-Traffic Durability: Combined the authentic warmth of natural oak aesthetics with the water resistance and resilience of Karndean LVT for new home living.
