Walsh Flooring Services was contracted to renovate the entrance lobby, primary corridor, and staircase area at a school in Bath. The project required transforming worn subfloors into a high-durability, slip-resistant commercial space designed to handle heavy daily footfall from students, staff, and visitors.
Subfloor Preparation & Setup
Before laying the vinyl, the subfloor required extensive preparation. The existing area consisted of a mixed base—a ground-bearing concrete slab through the main corridor and fixed timber steps on the staircase. Legacy floor coverings and loose adhesive residues were stripped back to concrete. Once clean, an acrylic primer was applied, followed by a continuous pour of self-levelling latex screed to bridge irregularities and create a mirror-flat finish.
Installation & Stair Safety Detailing
Once the latex screed cured, high-wear wood-effect sheet safety vinyl was fully bonded across the lobby and primary circulation routes. Heavy-duty commercial barrier matting was fitted flush into the primary entrance wells to trap grit and moisture. On the staircase, the vinyl was hand-cut and bonded to both treads and risers, finished with heavy-duty aluminium stair nosings featuring dark slip-resistant PVC inserts on every step tread for full safety compliance.
